FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How big is the team?
A: TriFactor has 20-25+ members, and is growing. We are pretty evenly split between men and women, with ages ranging from 20 to 65, with an average of about 40.

Q: What do you offer?
A: Our club provides the opportunity to receive training and coaching in all three disciplines as well as providing opportunities for strength training and general triathlon skills. Saturday bikes build throughout the year to support your endurance development. For swim skills, stroke analysis through video and individual support is offered. Brick workout (combining the bike and run) opportunities will also arise throughout the year to make sure you feel confident and ready on race day!

Q: How much does it cost to join?
A: Fees for the 2023-2024 season will be announced in early October.

You can register as part of the team here once final fees are set

Q: Do I need to have competed at Triathlon to join?
A: Absolutely not! In fact, many of our members who have joined did their first race as a member of TriFactor. Our team has members of all skill levels, from those brand new to the sport, to National Team members, and those who have completed multiple Ironman races.

Q: Do I have to race?
A: No, you just have to have fun. Of course for a lot of us racing is fun. Every person's level of participation is up to them. We try our best to foster a team environment where people can enjoy the Triathlon lifestyle no matter their level of involvement. Members are obliged, however, to volunteer time to support the annual Beat the Cold Winter Triathlon.

Q: Where does the team race?
A: Triathlon races are held at Birds Hill Park, St. Malo Provincial Park, Pinawa, Riding Mountain National Park, Kenora and many other places. See the Triathlon Manitoba Event Calendar for a list of this years local events.

Q: Do I need a special bike to do a triathlon?

A: No. Many individuals new to the sport do their first few races on a road or mountain bike until they decide whether they will continue in the sport or not. However, should you decide to continue, you would most likely want to acquire a bike more suitable for triathlon.

Q: I'm planning on dropping into a few workouts, what can I expect and what do I need to bring?

A: If you're coming to a brick (bike and run) workout, be prepared to run and bike. You will need to bring a bike in good working order  and your running shoes. For a track workout, just you and your runners will do. For a Saturday long bike workout, bring your bike. For any of the swims, you will need a swim cap if your hair is long, and goggles. Pull-buoys, paddles and kick boards can be borrowed from the facility. Please check our workout page for more info about how long the workouts last. A heart rate monitor is a useful tool if you have one.

Most people are more comfortable in biking-style shorts for better movement rather than loose shorts that tend to ride up. Longer yoga style pants can also get caught in the bike chain and are not recommended, and are too hot for inside runs. Cotton is not a good fabric choice for either a top or bottom. You will need at least one water bottle (at least two for the Saturday long bike). For indoor bike workouts, also bring a towel. For the evening workouts, just a light meal at least an hour beforehand is recommended. For Saturday workouts, a small breakfast is advised, as are snacks during the workout (energy bar, banana, dried fruits, nuts, gels). Showers and lockers are available at our indoor  facilities. Typically people bring all their gear to the workout location, unless they are swimming beforehand, when they will also be using a locker.
